{"id":25444,"date":"2025-09-03T12:24:30","date_gmt":"2025-09-03T17:24:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/?p=25444"},"modified":"2025-09-03T12:24:32","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T17:24:32","slug":"professional-magazine-highlights-amano-lab-in-research-on-animal-waste-as-energy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/professional-magazine-highlights-amano-lab-in-research-on-animal-waste-as-energy\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional magazine highlights Amano lab in research on animal waste as energy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Ryo Amano, professor, mechanical engineering, and his doctoral students, Mohamed Maache and Cheikh Kada, were featured in a story in The American Society of Mechanical Engineers&#8217; magazine about their research into optimizing animal waste for maximum energy output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The story, which ran as the cover of the online magazine, elaborated on an academic paper Amano&#8217;s research team recently published in the ASME <a href=\"https:\/\/asmedigitalcollection.asme.org\/energyresourcesrenewable\/article\/1\/5\/051504\/1217802\/Effects-of-Mixture-Ratios-on-Co-Pyrolysis-of\">Journal of Energy Resources Technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The technology already is being tested at multiple sites across Milwaukee. Other lab members involved in the work were PhD students Kada Kada and Abdallah Benelmadjat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study looked at the thermochemical properties of horse manure \u2013 and suggests that biowaste can provide an efficient means of energy generation in oxygen-free environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers tested mixing sewage sludge with cow or chicken manure to see if it could produce more energy when heated.
