For Javier Retana Jr., the chance to meet and talk to the vice president of the United States was an honor and a chance to represent the Latino community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Retana, a senior in civil engineering from Kenosha, is a first-generation university student and leads 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s chapter of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. \u201cMy parents came here from small villages in Mexico, so they were excited that I had this opportunity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
