Our college hosts the event at the end of each semester, typically the day before <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/graduation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">51ÁÔÆæ commencement<\/a>. Summer graduates are invited to attend the spring event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed alignright is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Order of the Engineer at 51ÁÔÆæ College of Engineering &amp; Applied Science\" width=\"1400\" height=\"788\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_OsxJiBZ3xc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Not every college or university holds this event.<\/strong> Our college leadership has been hosting the Order of the Engineer at the end of each semester since 1995, as a way to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. Participating graduates are presented with an official certificate and given a stainless-steel ring to be worn on the fifth (pinky) finger of their working hand. Only students who participate in the in-person event are able to receive the certificate and ring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ceremony includes a creed similar to the oath attributed to Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.) that is generally taken by medical graduates and which sets forth an ethical code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Order of the Engineer is guided by a national board of governors, with ceremonies held in colleges and universities with engineering curricula in all 50 states and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2020.
