target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Advanced Mobility Biomechanics Lab<\/a> at UW-Milwaukee, led by Jacob Rammer, develops and applies connected health technology to study mobility of people with disabilities and outcomes of clinical rehabilitation, with particular attention to underserved communities globally.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/bigdata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Big Data Analytics and Visualization Lab<\/a>, led by Zeyun Yu, is focused on developments of new computational approaches and software tools for various types of massive data processing, data mining and visualization using both knowledge-based and data-driven techniques.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/biorobotics-lab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Biorobotics Lab<\/a>, led by Mohammad Habibur Rahman, focuses on the design, development, and control of wearable robots that can rehabilitate and assist physically disabled individuals whose upper and lower extremities are impaired. These wearable robots are designed for the individual to use to rehabilitate and, ultimately, be able to leave the wearable robot behind.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The focus of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/dsail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory<\/a> (DSAIL), led by Susan McRoy, is to develop computational approaches that combine human expertise with data-analytic models to solve complex problems, such as improving health outcomes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/dabaghlab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Mechanobiology and Vascular Biomechanics Lab<\/a>, led by Mahsa Dabagh, graduate and undergraduate students use biology, mathematics, mechanics, biomaterials, and fluid dynamics to answer key questions about human diseases. We develop innovative prevention and treatment plans for cancer and cardiovascular diseases, which are tightly interconnected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mission of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/mobilitylab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Movement Analysis for Biomedical Innovation &amp; Technology (Mobility) Laboratory<\/a>, led by Brooke Slavens, is to advance quantitative rehabilitation research for improving health and function of persons with disabilities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/premnathlab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bone Lab<\/a>, led by Priya Premnath, is comprised of engineers, chemists, and biologists aiming to create innovative solutions in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Funding Support<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Many students earn&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/students\/research-teaching-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Teaching Assistantships<\/a>&nbsp;(TAs),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/students\/research-teaching-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Research Assistantships&nbsp;<\/a>(RAs) or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/students\/fellowships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fellowships<\/a>&nbsp;during their graduate study which helps to fund their education while also building leadership skills.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assistantship decisions are made by the academic departments only after an applicant has been accepted to the program.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Poster Competition &amp; Three Minute Thesis<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The annual&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/engineering\/research\/student-research-poster-competition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Poster Competition &amp; Three Minute Thesis&nbsp;<\/a>is a signature event for our college. Students gain valuable communication experience sharing their research and out-of-classroom experiences with faculty and industry judges, who provide feedback. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three Minute Thesis is a research communication competition that challenges PhD students to explain their research thesis and its significance to a general audience in three minutes, using a single PowerPoint slide as a reference.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\">Student Organizations<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Our college has an active chapter of <strong>Biomedical Engineering Society<\/strong> that makes connections between students and faculty and facilitates volunteer opportunities, like 3D printing prosthetic hands for kids in need through e-NABLE, a non-profit.
