Learn more this fall about becoming an inclusive early childhood educator! This online speaker series will help prepare you to become an educator who honors the richness related to culture, race, language, gender, socioeconomic status, ability, conditions of learning, and life circumstances of young children. Learn to build environments that celebrate the diversity of young children and make learning accessible for all.<\/p>\n

Date\/Time<\/strong>: Saturday, October 7 from 9:00 to 11:00 am<\/p>\n

Title of Presentation<\/strong>: Expansive View of Multilingualism: How to Bring Black Language, Bidialectalism, and Translanguaging in the Classroom Space<\/p>\n

Summary<\/strong>: Children come into the classroom with a wealth of knowledge that many times include multiple languages. This presentation calls for a more linguistically expansive orientation in classrooms that invites educators to move beyond language separation and the use of a \u201cstandard\u201d English language. Therefore, making space for and affirming students\u2019 dynamic languaging and dynamically lingual identities. By \u201cexpansive\u201d we refer to widening what is treated as acceptable language for schooling. Expansive language ideologies recognize context-specific uses and the power of knowing that many acceptable language types serve diverse purposes, especially in a 21st-century, diverse, globalized, and technologically mediated world.<\/p>\n
