Hosted by the School of Education, the Office of Dual Enrollment, and Educators Rising, the event brought together high school juniors, seniors, and others curious about careers in education. Students spent the day exploring engaging presentations, interactive breakout sessions, and opportunities to connect with 51ÁÔÆæ\u00a0students,\u00a0faculty,\u00a0and local education professionals.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was made possible through the hard work and coordination of\u00a0<strong>Michaela Kaiser<\/strong>,\u00a0Recruitment\u00a0and Scholarship Coordinator\u00a0in\u00a0the School of Education.\u00a0\u201cThe Future Educators Summit is a great opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to experience the realities and challenges of the ever-changing world of education,\u201d she\u00a0explained. \u201cMost of the students who attend are currently enrolled in college-credit education courses. Our goal is not only to foster their love for teaching and learning but also to help them understand that they can make a positive impact right now. They don\u2019t have to wait until they graduate to start making a difference.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit opened with a powerful message from\u00a0Nasif Rodgers, Program Director for Educational Administration and Supervision, who inspired students to see themselves as future change-makers and to truly \u201cEmbrace Their Role as Revolutionary Educators.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students explored a variety of breakout sessions tailored to their interests, diving into topics that sparked conversation and creativity. Panels ranged from empowering discussions like <em>Students\u2019 Perspectives\u2014They Really Do Matter!<\/em> with <strong>Angel Hessel<\/strong>, Distinguished Lecturer in the Elementary and Middle Education Program, and <em>Incorporating Student Voice and Advocacy in the Classroom<\/em> with <strong>Nate Deans Jr.<\/strong>, Manager III of Black and Latino Male Achievement through Milwaukee Public Schools, to forward-thinking sessions such as <em>AI and Teaching Today<\/em> with <strong>Shevaun Watson<\/strong>, Associate Professor of English, and PhD candidates <strong>Ryan Vojtisek<\/strong> and <strong>Matthew Cooper<\/strong>\u2014along with many other engaging panels throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students left the summit feeling\u00a0uplifted and encouraged. A Hmong American Peace Academy senior shared, \u201cI felt inspired by each and every word that I heard today\u2026 to never give up and always move forward even when things get difficult.\u201d Another student reflected, \u201cSomething cool that I heard was how we as future educators need to understand our worth and value in the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through interactive sessions and activities, the summit helped students explore what 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s School of Education has to offer and how it can guide them as they take their next steps toward\u00a0their futures.\u00a0With opportunities to connect with current 51ÁÔÆæ students, alumni, faculty, and community partners, participants\u00a0were\u00a0encouraged\u00a0to\u00a0envision themselves as part of the new generation of revolutionary educators.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Friday, October 10, 2025, the University of Wisconsin\u2013Milwaukee (51ÁÔÆæ) welcomed over\u00a0230\u00a0students and\u00a030\u00a0community members to the 2025 Future Educators Summit.
