{"id":211,"date":"2023-01-12T16:21:38","date_gmt":"2023-01-12T22:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/education\/?page_id=211"},"modified":"2026-04-01T11:19:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T16:19:15","slug":"licensing-renewals-stipulations","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/education\/students\/licensing-renewals-stipulations\/","title":{"rendered":"Licensing, Renewals and Stipulations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p>The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee provides endorsement for teacher certification, pupil services and administrator licenses for the School of Education, Peck School of the Arts, College of Health Sciences, Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, and School of Information Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a0\">How To Apply For Your License<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make sure your legal name, address, phone number, major, minor and concentration are all accurate in PAWS. Contact your adviser if your major, minor or concentration is inaccurate. Any discrepancies in this information will cause a delay in getting your license.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If applicable, check that your Wisconsin Foundations of Reading Test score is on your transcript. Please note that it takes 4 weeks after you\u2019ve tested for your score to be processed, so plan ahead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create Your Login\/Access to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/elo.wieducatorlicensing.org\/datamart\/widpiVoLogin.do;jsessionid=AKqsqmwNdoyvZdLP4-W_KcDl10weVa-KUTuv1GWX.i-039c5f34577488ca7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ELO License Application<\/a>. You will access the ELO using your personal information. If you are a returning educator, you will immediately be directed to a license confirmation page. If you are a new educator, you will be directed to a new user registration page. Here\u2019s a helpful resource:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/imce\/licensing\/doc\/ELO_Log-in_Job_Aid.docx\">TEPDL Log-in Job Aid<\/a> (docx).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fingerprinting: If you have lived outside of the State of Wisconsin after age 17, you must provide fingerprints. Visit the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/tepdl\/licensing\/fingerprint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Fingerprint Requirement<\/a>&nbsp;webpage to find out how.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be prepared to answer the background check questions,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/licensing\/background-check\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Background Check for Licensure<\/a>. If there is some type of misconduct that needs to be reported, prepare and attach a written explanation of what happened. You must also provide complete electronic (scanned) copies of documents associated with the matter that can corroborate \/ illuminate your explanation of the incident. These may include the criminal complaint, judgment of conviction, police reports, disciplinary letters\/findings, correspondence, etc., as applicable. (<strong>Note<\/strong>: Court history information printed from the CCAP web site is NOT sufficient.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"a1\">Undergraduates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are getting a bachelor\u2019s degree:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wait for your degree to post and show up on your transcript before applying for your license.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your degree has not posted 6 weeks after the last day of student teaching, contact your adviser and\/or Enrollment Management.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait to receive an email from the 51ÁÔÆæ licensing office with instructions on how to apply for your license.
