{"id":8989,"date":"2023-11-09T15:20:49","date_gmt":"2023-11-09T21:20:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/?p=8989"},"modified":"2023-11-09T15:20:52","modified_gmt":"2023-11-09T21:20:52","slug":"the-niho-excellence-fund-supports-research-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/the-niho-excellence-fund-supports-research-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Niho Excellence Fund Supports Research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Department greatly benefited in 2022-2023 from the Niho Research Excellence Fund.&nbsp; Established and generously funded by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/economics\/give\/yoshio-niho-excellence-fund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Professor Emeritus Yoshio Niho<\/a>, it promotes Departmental research. It allows research expenditures and trips that would otherwise be impossible. We deeply thank Yoshio and all who have contributed. Here\u2019s what happened last year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scott Drewianka \u2013 I was pleased to be able to upgrade my computer at a time when the University could not.&nbsp; I was also able to renew my statistical software license.&nbsp; These were both critical to continuing research and I thank the Fund.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kundan Kishor \u2013 The Niho Research Fund award allowed me to present \u201c(In)Stability of the Relationship between Relative Expenditure and Prices of Durable and Non-durable Goods&#8221; at the Delhi Macroeconomics Group meeting in Delhi in March 2023. I&#8217;m grateful for this valuable opportunity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Itziar Lazkano \u2013 The Niho Fund sponsored my participation in the Annual Meeting of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.&nbsp;I presented joint work with a 51ÁÔÆæ graduate student, \u201cIs the Shale Gas Revolution Good for Green Innovation?\u201d.&nbsp; It was a great opportunity to get critical feedback and meet with experts in my field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rebecca Neumann \u2013 A Fulbright student of mine here at 51ÁÔÆæ, Noureddine Echcharfi, completed his PhD at the University of Rabat this March. An advisor on his dissertation, I was able to both attend the defense in Morocco and continue our joint research.
