Professor Rebecca Neumann and PhD student Ethan Ballou spent part of April in Bratislava Slovakia.  Under an Erasmus grant they participated in the life of the Slovak University of Technology.

They each taught a class to students there: Ethan taught on game theory in an Investment Evaluation Methods class and Professor Neumann taught about financial regulations, tariffs and trade to a large Business Management class.  They also conducted research with colleagues there.

Chad Cotti (PhD 2006) has been named Chair of the Department of Agricultural, Food and Resource Economics at Michigan State University.  An expert on food security and health, Chad has a long history of administrative service and excellent research.  He leaves UW-Oshkosh after previous appointments at the University of Connecticut and the University of South Carolina.  Congratulations!

Congratulations to this year’s PhD cohort! Our best wishes to Salome Giorgadze (PhD 2023) who has taken a position in transfer pricing with Ernst and Young, Jayati Chakraborty (PhD 2023) who has taken a position at TransUnion in data science and analytics, Sezen Ozcan Onal (PhD 2023) who joins the University of Minnesota Center for Public Health Systems as an Economic Researcher, Siyu Feng (PhD 2023) who begins a post doc at Oxford University with the Greenhouse Gas Removal Hub, Zoe Laulederkind (PhD 2022) who starts this fall as a visiting assistant professor at Rhodes College, Caglar Onal (PhD 2023) who took a senior researcher position with Northwestern University’s Institute for Public Health and Medicine, Nam Nguyen (PhD 2022) who has taken a position as a Data Scientist with Wintrust Bank in Chicago and Jing Chu (PhD 2023), a visiting assistant professor at the University of Texas – El Paso. Well done to all!

Congratulations to Noureddine Echcharfi who completed his PhD in March at Mohammed V University of Rabat. Noureddine was a Fulbright student in our Department in 2017-2018 through the Moroccan-American Commission For Educational & Cultural Exchange. Noureddine works as an Economist in the Department of Economic Studies at Bank Al-Maghrib (Morocco’s Central Bank) and we wish him all the best.

Professor Rebecca Neumann sponsored him for his studies at 51 and served as co-advisor on his dissertation. She was able to attend his defense and continue their joint research thanks to the Niho Faculty Excellence Research Fund.
