On May 12th we held a celebration to recognize another successful year. We brought together graduating students from all three of our degree programs, faculty and local alums. We enjoyed celebratory cake and good conversation with friends old and new. A great way to mark our students’ accomplishments as they transition to being our alums.
Thanks to all those who organized and attended this special event!

Brenda Cullin retired earlier this year after 42 years of outstanding service. Since 2011 she served as the office manager of the Department.  She brought a steady presence, substantial skills, and a loving heart. She made us a better and more caring “family.”

Last week we finally had the opportunity to throw her the party she deserved.  The Chancellor, Provost, faculty, students, alums, coworkers and friends from the Department and across the campus came to say thank you and show respect.  Kundan Kishor, Chair, read a special resolution you can read here.  There was great food and fellowship.  Brenda herself had a few words to say (are you surprised?) and it was wonderful event.  Brenda will be missed!

The Department expresses great thanks to Paul Schoedel ’78 who recently made a planned gift to support students studying economics here at 51.  Paul tells 51 that Economics was a passion and that he saw it as a central part of a strong liberal arts education. He remembered fondly the influence of former Department professors Joe Di Salvo and Richard Perlman. Paul is excited that his gift will eventually support those who want to study the field he so enjoyed at 51 which was so meaningful to him.
