Hazing is defined under the Hazing Policy and includes, but is not limited to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>intentional or reckless acts which endanger the physical health or safety of a student for the purpose of initiation or admission into or affiliation with any student organization. Hazing allegations against non-students may be investigated by another 51ÁÔÆæ unit, including but not limited to the 51ÁÔÆæ Police Department and\/or Human Resources, depending upon the individual\u2019s 51ÁÔÆæ affiliation. Potential sanctions for hazing committed by students are listed in UWS 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To report hazing, visit 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s incident reporting form for nonacademic misconduct:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofWisconsinMilwaukee\" rel=\"\">Report Hazing to 51ÁÔÆæ<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Hazing can also be reported to 51ÁÔÆæPD; however, reporting to 51ÁÔÆæ staff does not automatically trigger a report to 51ÁÔÆæPD. Investigations under the nonacademic misconduct policies shall proceed regardless of any criminal investigation or proceeding.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-hazing-violations-and-statistics\">Hazing Violations and Statistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hazing-transparency-reports\">Hazing Transparency Reports<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stop Campus Hazing Act requires 51ÁÔÆæ to publish Campus Hazing Transparency Reports. This report is different from the Clery Act Annual Security Report. In the Hazing Transparency Report, 51ÁÔÆæ must summarize findings concerning any 51ÁÔÆæ recognized or established student organizations that are found to be in violation of hazing under UWS Ch. 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those Transparency Reports are available here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: If there are no Transparency Reports listed below, there have not been any hazing violations by any registered student organizations within any reporting period.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-clery-act\">The Clery Act<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 (Clery Act) and Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2013 (VAWA) requires that 51ÁÔÆæ collect crime statistics that were reported to local police agencies or campus security authorities for crimes that occurred:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by 51ÁÔÆæ<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/safety\/\" rel=\"\">51ÁÔÆæ Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report<\/a>\n\n\n\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/deanofstudents\/clery-act-information\/\" rel=\"\">51ÁÔÆæ Clery Act Information<\/a>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For the purposes of the Clery Act statistics, hazing is defined by the Stop Campus Hazing Act. <em>Note that this definition is different than what is defined under UWS Ch. 17.09(5).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stop Campus Hazing Act definition is the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Any intentional, knowing, or reckless act committed by a person (whether individually or in concert with other persons) against another person or persons regardless of the willingness of such other person or persons to participate, that \u2013<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>is committed in the course of an initiation into, an affiliation with, or the maintenance of membership in, a student organization; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>causes or creates a risk, above the reasonable risk encountered in the course of participation in the institution of higher education or the organization (such as the physical preparation necessary for participation in an athletic team), of physical or psychological injury \u2026 .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hazing Act provides a non-exhaustive list of examples of conduct that causes or creates such a risk, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>whipping, beating, striking, electronic shocking, placing of a harmful substance on someone&#8217;s body, or similar activity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing sleep deprivation, exposure to the elements, confinement in a small space, extreme calisthenics, or other similar activity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to consume food, liquid, alcohol, drugs, or other substances;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>causing, coercing, or otherwise inducing another person to perform sexual acts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any activity that places another person in reasonable fear of bodily harm through the use of threatening words or conduct;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any activity against another person that includes a criminal violation of local, State, Tribal, or Federal law; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>any activity that induces, causes, or requires another person to perform a duty or task that involves a criminal violation of local, State, Tribal, or Federal law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-gray uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-student-organization-definitions\">Student Organization Definitions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>51ÁÔÆæ defines a \u201cregistered student organization\u201d as a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/studentinvolvement\/organizations\/\">student group registered through Student Involvement<\/a> and meeting student organization registration requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stop Campus Hazing Act defines \u201cstudent organization\u201d for purposes of reporting statistics as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>an organization at an institution of higher education (such as a club, society, association, varsity or junior varsity athletic team, club sports team, fraternity, sorority, band, or student government)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>in which two or more of the members are students enrolled at the institution of higher education,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>whether or not the organization is established or recognized by the institution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity uwm-c-hr--thick uwm-u-my-0\"
