{"id":349,"date":"2025-02-17T11:01:00","date_gmt":"2025-02-17T17:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/deanofstudents\/?page_id=349"},"modified":"2026-03-26T11:47:55","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T16:47:55","slug":"laptop-loan-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/deanofstudents\/student-resources\/laptop-loan-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Laptop Loan Program"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\"><header class=\"page-header\"><h1 class=\"entry-title heading-separator\">Laptop Loan Program<\/h1><\/header>\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Students may apply for a device for Spring 2026 semester beginning on 1\/19\/26.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ Laptop Loan Program is designed to help students get through a short-term emergency.&nbsp; 51ÁÔÆæ has a very limited number of used Dell laptops made available by private donors. Devices are not new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dean of Students Office will notify students within&nbsp;10 days of submitting an application&nbsp;on whether they have been selected to receive a device or have been placed on a waiting list.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col uwm-l-col--4 uwm-l-offset--1\"><div class=\"uwm-block-otp-nav \"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-gray uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Devices are not available for students to complete workplace responsibilities. Students who need a device for their campus job or teaching assistantship should talk to their department.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Current student enrolled at least half time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enrolled in the term in which the device is requested.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enrolled in a degree-seeking or certificate program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>No disciplinary holds and good standing with the University.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated financial need that hinders continued enrollment and success at 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reasonably exhausted all other resources (e.g., computer lab, student loans, friends and family, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students are only eligible to check out a device for&nbsp;one semester throughout the entirety of their enrollment at 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Priority is given eligible applicants who have demonstrated financial need and have previously not borrowed a device.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-terms\">Terms<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students are required to return devices at the end of each semester.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students will be responsible for costs associated with&nbsp;late,&nbsp;lost, or&nbsp;damaged devices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must agree to the terms provided when checking out the device at the library.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/technology\/help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">51ÁÔÆæ Help Desk<\/a>&nbsp;<\/strong>(414-229-4040) will be able to provide tech support similar to what you would receive if you sought assistance for a personal computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-gray uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-application\">Application<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are interested in borrowing a device, please click on the link below to fill out a 51ÁÔÆæ Laptop Loan Request Form. Please be sure to answer all questions thoroughly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-u-flex uwm-u-flex--wrap uwm-u-flex--left\">\n<a class=\"uwm-c-button uwm-u-mr-20 uwm-u-mb-20\" href=\"https:\/\/cm.maxient.com\/reportingform.php?UnivofWisconsinMilwaukee&amp;layout_id=6\" rel=\"\">51ÁÔÆæ Laptop Loan Request Form<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-distribution\">Distribution<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Dean of Student office will review new requests on a weekly basis. The Library will contact you within 10 business days to provide instructions on how to pick up a device, or to let you know if devices are no longer available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Devices must be picked up within 7 days. Please note that the Google Chromebooks may only be loaned for a&nbsp;maximum of 7 days.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-p-card--gold uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-purchase-a-used-computer\">Purchase a Used Computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would rather purchase an affordable device,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sustainability\/what-we-do\/reuse-recycle\/surplus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>51ÁÔÆæ Surplus<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;often has reasonably priced computers and laptops available for sale. Go to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/1013289172339927\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Shop 51ÁÔÆæ Surplus Facebook page<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to view inventory or contact 51ÁÔÆæ Surplus&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:uwmsrpls@uwm.edu\"><strong>by email<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;or phone at 414-659-1391. Surplus is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.&nbsp;<strong>by appointment only<\/strong>.
