Alberto Maldonado<\/strong> has led many efforts in the areas of multicultural enrollment and student retention in his 23 year career at 51ÁÔÆæ. He has also collaborated with many communities and school districts in our area to help prepare hundreds of students and their families for post-secondary education. He currently serves as Director of the Roberto Hernandez Center and co-leads the chancellor\u2019s committee for Hispanic Student Initiatives. Mentor: Joan Nesbitt<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sheng Chang<\/strong> is the Program Manager for the Southeast Asian American Student Center.  She joined 51ÁÔÆæ in 2021 and is a Milwaukee native.  Before joining 51ÁÔÆæ, she worked in financial aid at another higher education institution and as a history teacher in a K12 setting. Yvette Alicea-Reed<\/strong> joined UW-Milwaukee in 2012.  She is currently an HR Manager\/HR Business Partner Team Supervisor in the Shared Service Center.  Alicea-Reed is an alumnus of UW-Milwaukee, with a bachelor\u2019s degree in Business Administration and master\u2019s degree in Human Resources and Labor Relations. Mentor: Sue Weslow<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Crystal D. Carter<\/strong> is a clinical associate professor and a field liaison in the Helen Bader of the Social Welfare Department. She is a Milwaukee native and UW-Milwaukee alumni. Mentor: Anne Basting<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sunny Brysch<\/strong> joined 51ÁÔÆæ in 2022 as an Assistant Clinical Professor and the director of the American Sign Language (ASL) Studies program.\u00a0She has a masters degree in Social Work and an additional certificate in ASL Studies.\u00a0As an Asian Deaf woman, Sunny works to develop a social justice compass in students and colleagues and encourage allyship with the Deaf community. Alanna Harris<\/strong> is a senior lecturer in the English Education department in the Department of Teaching and Learning at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She is also a doctoral candidate at 51ÁÔÆæ. Her research interests involve culturally relevant pedagogy, contemplative pedagogies, and healing centered approaches to learning. Mentor: Elizabeth Drame<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Aki Roberts<\/strong> is an Associate Professor of Sociology, and a co-coordinator of the Quantitative Social Data Analysis (QSDA) certificate program. She applies sociological theories and quantitative methods to study crime, criminal justice outcomes, and policing. Her most recent work on the impact of police lethal force incidents on solving crimes involving Black victims appeared in Criminology & Public Policy.<\/em> Mentor: Prasenjit Guptasarma<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Denise Ross-Page<\/strong>, PhD., BCBA-D, is Chair of the University of Wisconsin-System\u2019s Institute for Urban Education, a program housed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she is also Associate Professor of Education in the Department of Teaching and Learning. Ross-Page is a certified special education teacher and a former elementary school principal. Her research applies the science of behavior to the development of language and literacy interventions for children with and without disabilities. Mentor: Tina Freiburger<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Paru Shah<\/strong> is a Professor of Political Science. Her work centers on the intersections of race, gender and politics, particularly in state and local politics. She is currently working on a project that documents and seeks to explain violence against Asian Americans in politics. Mentor: Hope Longwell-Grice<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
