The Upper Midwest Latin American Studies Initiative
\nFaculty Research\/Conference Award Competition<\/h3>\n

Eligibility<\/h4>\n

Funded with Federal Title VI Grant monies from the designated National Resource Centers above, these awards are for Latin Americanist and Caribbeanist faculty with an appointment at a two or four year, public or private institution in the Midwest.<\/p>\n

NOTE: Funding is intended for faculty at other regional campuses beyond University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.<\/em><\/p>\n

Award Categories for Latin American\/Caribbean scholarship (in selection priority order)<\/h4>\n
    \n
  1. Original research<\/li>\n
  2. Presentation of an accepted paper at a professional virtual or in-person conference\/workshop<\/li>\n
  3. Comparative and cross-disciplinary research projects involving Latin America and the Caribbean<\/li>\n
  4. Attendance at a virtual or in-person professional conference\/workshop<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    *Note: In-person travel is\u00a0dependent upon university and federal travel guidelines and international travel must be approved by the US Department of Education<\/p>\n

    1. Connection to CLACS Mission; Type of Request; Strength of Proposal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Nature of Awards<\/h4>\n

      The number of awards each cycle will vary and the dollar amount will not exceed $500 and will depend on the project and number of applications. Preference normally will be given to applicants who have not been funded within the last 3 years.<\/p>\n

      We are currently awaiting confirmation of funding<\/p>\n

      \u00a0IMPORTANT NOTE:<\/strong> Awards that include foreign travel<\/strong> must receive travel approval from the U.S. Department of Education at least 45 days in advance of travel and have strict airline parameters. All air travel, domestic or foreign, must be on a U.S. carrier.<\/strong> Award recipients are strongly encouraged to contact the campus assigned to process their award before making any travel plans. Funds that are intended for travel are contingent on approval from the U.S. Department of Education.<\/em><\/p>\n

      A Complete Application Includes:<\/h4>\n
        \n
      1. General information<\/strong> including type of request, e.g. research support or\u00a0 conference presentation<\/li>\n
      2. Proposal (1-2 pages)<\/strong> that explains the connection with Latin American\/Caribbean scholarship. For research: a detailed project description; organization\/institution affiliation(s) and contacts; research methodology (if applicable); anticipated outcome(s); and project timeline. For paper presentation: include an abstract of your paper and a link to the conference website, and upload a document stating that your paper has been accepted. For conference attendance: state the anticipated outcomes of your attendance.<\/li>\n
      3. Budget Worksheet<\/strong> that includes logistics and funds expected from other sources<\/li>\n
      4. Uploaded Item(s):<\/strong> current abbreviated curriculum vitae<\/strong>; and a letter confirming acceptance of your paper (if applicable)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Funding is made possible through the Office of International and Foreign Language Education, U.S. Department of Education (CFDA 84.01A, Title VI, Higher Education Act) and is subject to change at the federal level.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
