In your employment report, you will explain your regular job duties and the connection between those duties and the degree you earned.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Volunteer positions:<\/strong>&nbsp;Volunteer&nbsp;positions do not qualify for STEM OPT Extension.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Self-employment:<\/strong>&nbsp;Self-employment is&nbsp;generally not&nbsp;allowed for STEM OPT Extension.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Remote&nbsp;work:<\/strong>&nbsp;Currently, the regulations allow you to work remotely inside the U.S. Your employer should approve and know your remote work location. You need to make sure you appropriately report your employer\u2019s address and&nbsp;your&nbsp;working (site) location in your employment report and on your I-983.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Multiple employers:<\/strong>&nbsp;You can work for multiple&nbsp;employers,&nbsp;however, each employment position must meet the STEM OPT Extension requirements.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How many hours am I\u00a0required\u00a0to work?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>You must work&nbsp;minimum&nbsp;20 hours per week.\u202fIf you work for multiple&nbsp;employers, you must work a minimum of 20 hours per week with each employer.\u202fThere is no&nbsp;maximum&nbsp;limit to hours worked per week.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Employment of 20 hours per week or less is considered\u202f<strong>part-time<\/strong>.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employment of more than 20 hours per week is considered<strong>\u202ffull-time<\/strong>.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What are the requirements for a STEM OPT employer?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>The&nbsp;employer&nbsp;must:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-verify.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">E-verified<\/a>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>have&nbsp;a valid EIN (Employer Identification Number)\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>complete&nbsp;and sign your form I-983 training plan&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Refer to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscis.gov\/working-in-the-united-states\/students-and-exchange-visitors\/optional-practical-training-extension-for-stem-students-stem-opt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Optional Practical Training Extension for STEM Students (STEM OPT)&nbsp;webpage<\/a>, published by USCIS, for the full list of employer requirements and responsibilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How many\u00a0unemployment\u00a0days am I allotted?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Once&nbsp;your&nbsp;STEM OPT Extension is approved, you will be&nbsp;allotted&nbsp;an extra&nbsp;60 days&nbsp;of unemployment. This is in addition to any remaining unemployment days not used during the&nbsp;initial&nbsp;period of post-completion OPT.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>Can I study in the U.S. while I am working on\u00a0STEM\u00a0OPT\u00a0Extension?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>You cannot start a new degree program or study full-time while you are&nbsp;participating&nbsp;in&nbsp;STEM&nbsp;OPT&nbsp;Extension. Enrollment in avocational or recreational coursework is allowed.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>Can I change my\u00a0employment?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Yes.&nbsp;The new employment must meet all STEM OPT Extension employment requirements. Refer to the Reporting Requirements below on how to report the changes in your employment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-required-reporting\">Required Reporting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion uwm-p-accordion--icon-left-circle\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What are the required reports that I must complete?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Your visa requires that you&nbsp;submit&nbsp;all reports within&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;of the event\/change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Address updates&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employment changes (new employment, completion of employment, change in full-time\/part-time employment status, employer address change)&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STEM OPT Data Validation (check-in) reports&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/stem-opt-hub\/for-students\/students-stem-opt-reporting-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Material changes<\/a> (significant alterations) of the current form I-983\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Legal&nbsp;name&nbsp;change as reflected in your Passport&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>ISSS requires that you submit the following reports within&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;of the event\/change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OPT\/STEM OPT EAD Card Submission\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How do I complete the reports?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Reminder: Your visa requires that you&nbsp;submit&nbsp;all reports within&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;of the event\/change.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PAWS:&nbsp;Address updates&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log into PAWS and update your Mailing Address in the \u201cMailing\u201d field; this information will be pulled into ISSS Connect and SEVIS will be updated in about one week.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your U.S. physical address must always be listed in PAWS under the \u201cMailing\u201d field.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your home country address must always be listed in PAWS under the \u201cHome\u201d field.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwm.edu\/isssconnectlogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect Portal<\/a>&nbsp;Reports:&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OPT\/STEM OPT EAD Card Submission&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report New OPT\/STEM OPT Employment\u202f&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report Completion of a Job\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Updated I-20: Legal Name Change\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STEM OPT Data Validation (Check-In) Report&nbsp;&nbsp;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check-in required every 6 months&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Annual self-evaluation to describe the progress of the training experience is&nbsp;required&nbsp;with the 12- and 24-month check-ins&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report&nbsp;Material&nbsp;Changes&nbsp;to Current OPT\/STEM OPT Employment Information&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more detailed information&nbsp;regarding&nbsp;reporting requirements for students who are on STEM OPT extension, please visit\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/studyinthestates.dhs.gov\/stem-opt-hub\/for-students\/students-stem-opt-reporting-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this site<\/a>.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>What\u00a0is\u00a0the STEM OPT Data Validation (Check-In) Report?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Every six months from the start date of your STEM OPT Extension, you must complete the validation report to verify the following information:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Name&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Residential or mailing address&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employer name and address&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Status of current employment&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In your&nbsp;12- and 24-month check-ins, an annual self-evaluation&nbsp;(page 5 of your I-983) must be completed&nbsp;to describe the progress of the training experience.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>STEM OPT Data validation reports can be&nbsp;submitted&nbsp;a maximum of&nbsp;30 days&nbsp;before the due date, but no later than&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;after the due&nbsp;date.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How do I report employment changes?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>Report the completion of the old employment&nbsp;with your I-983 final evaluation&nbsp;in&nbsp;your\u202f<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwm.edu\/isssconnectlogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect Portal<\/a>\u202fwithin&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;of employment completion.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You must complete a new I-983 for the new employment&nbsp;and report your new employment in&nbsp;your&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwm.edu\/isssconnectlogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect Portal<\/a>&nbsp;within&nbsp;10 days&nbsp;of beginning the employment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>REMINDER: Your Data Validation (Check-In) Report due dates do not change with the change of your employment. You must still complete the required reports every six months from the start date of your STEM OPT Extension.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-international-travel\">International Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion uwm-p-accordion--icon-left-circle\" data-accordion-prefix-classes=\"uwm\" data-accordion-cool-selectors=\"1\"><button class=\"uwm-p-accordion--toggle-button size-p-md\">Expand All<\/button>\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>Can I travel internationally while my STEM OPT Extension application is pending?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>We recommend postponing international travel until you have your approved STEM OPT Extension EAD card&nbsp;to support your request for reentry to the U.S.\u202fThe officer at the U.S. border has the discretion to&nbsp;determine&nbsp;if you are eligible for reentry to the U.S.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your STEM OPT Extension recommended I-20 will not be signed for travel.\u202fIf you decide to travel internationally while your STEM OPT Extension is pending, you must&nbsp;submit&nbsp;a Travel Endorsement request through&nbsp;your\u202f<a href=\"https:\/\/www.isssconnect.uwm.edu\/index.cfm?FuseAction=Security.AngLogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect Portal<\/a>.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How do I get a travel endorsement after my\u00a0STEM\u00a0OPT\u00a0Extension\u00a0is approved?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>After your STEM OPT Extension is approved and you have&nbsp;submitted&nbsp;the \u201cOPT\/STEM OPT EAD&nbsp;Card&nbsp;Submission\u201d in your ISSS Connect portal, you will receive an updated I-20 with a travel endorsement.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;If that travel endorsement expires and you need a new travel endorsement, you can&nbsp;request&nbsp;that through&nbsp;your&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uwm.edu\/isssconnectlogin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ISSS Connect Portal<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reminder:&nbsp;Travel endorsements are valid for six months from the date signed for students on approved STEM OPT authorization.\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--header\"><strong>How\u00a0should\u00a0I prepare for travel while\u00a0on STEM OPT Extension?<\/strong><\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel\"><div class=\"uwm-p-accordion--panel-inner uwm-u-clear\">\n<p>When traveling, you should make sure to carry with you:&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Updated I-20 with travel endorsement that lists the STEM OPT Extension approval and employment\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>STEM OPT Extension EAD card\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Employment offer letter\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valid passport\u202f\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Valid F-1 visa\u202f\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/i94.cbp.dhs.gov\/I94\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Most recent I-94<\/a>&nbsp;(for travel within the U.S.)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional&nbsp;information is available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/cie\/services\/students\/travel\/\">travel recommendations<\/a>&nbsp;webpage.\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-sevp-portal-nbsp\">SEVP Portal &nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For information on the SEVP Portal and how to set your portal up, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/cie\/services\/students\/employment\/maintaining-your-status-while-on-opt\/\">Maintaining Your Status while on OPT page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-uwm-credential-access-nbsp\">51ÁÔÆæ Credential Access&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s important that you continue to check your 51ÁÔÆæ email&nbsp;and keep your 51ÁÔÆæ credentials active while on STEM OPT Extension.
