Uihlein Endowed Chair Melissa Scanlan was quoted in a\u00a0Washington Post\u00a0article examining a\u00a0recent report from the United Nations University, the U.N.\u2019s research arm,\u00a0that\u00a0finds\u00a0climate change, pollution and decades of overuse have pushed the world into a state of \u201cwater bankruptcy,\u201d\u00a0a state they define as a long-term condition that requires a global reset in approaches.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fresh water is a finite resource with inputs and outputs that make up a global water budget.&nbsp;People worldwide are starting to experience the&nbsp;impacts&nbsp;of overspending that budget. \u201cThe global scope of the report is useful in showing repeat patterns,\u201d Scanlan said. \u201cIt\u2019s&nbsp;not just the Southern&nbsp;Hemisphere,&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;not just the Middle East.
