Artist and C21 Research Fellow Kyoung Ae Cho recently showcased her work in two exhibitions, highlighting her innovative approach to mixed media and fiber art. Cho’s solo show, “Passing,” was on display at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield, Wisconsin, from November 8 to December 29, 2024. The exhibition explored the concept of life’s journey and the preservation of memories through the transformation of everyday fabrics into thought-provoking artworks. Cho’s pieces delved into themes of mortality, celebration, and the vibrancy of youth, weaving together materials that hold personal significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Simultaneously, Cho’s work was featured in the group exhibition “Fiber Flux: Midwest Educators in Textiles, Fibers Art and Material Studies” at the Valade Family Gallery, College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan, from November 8 to December 14, 2024. This exhibition showcased the innovative spirit of Midwest educators in the field of fiber art and textile design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kyoung Ae Cho is a fiber artist who engages in intimate dialogues with nature, respectfully transforming natural elements, recycled matter, and low-valued materials she personally gathers into collaborative artistic expressions.\u00a0Her work emerges from a profound belief that understanding nature requires examining its smallest components, viewing each material as a participant in an ongoing conversation about transformation and interconnectedness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
