Through collaboration and individual reflection, C21 fosters innovative research at the intersection of the humanities, arts and sciences, supporting emerging and established scholars, publishing new research, and hosting conferences, lectures and other events. C21 Graduate Fellows are integral to the overall mission, execution of programming, and community outreach initiatives of the Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unit:<\/strong> Center for 21st Century Studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Reports to:<\/strong> C21 Managing Director<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Salary:<\/strong> $19\/hr. Hourly positions do not receive benefits. Hours range from 10 to 20 per week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Appointment Period: <\/strong>The 2026-27 academic year (9 months) with opportunity to renew for 2027-28.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-position-opening-s\">Position Opening(s)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center for 21st Century Studies has one to two openings for graduate student fellows for the 2026-2027 academic year. These positions are open to students at the Master\u2019s or Doctoral level. Working at C21 provides graduate students the opportunity to meet visiting scholars, attend C21 events, and gain experience planning and producing academic media, executing communication strategies, developing C21\u2019s web presence, publicizing events, and taking ownership of special projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some evening work may be required on occasion. All positions are hourly. Appointments available during the 9-month academic year (2026-27).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-essential-job-functions\">Essential Job Functions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduate Student Fellows aid in the execution of C21 programming through five major initiatives:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Graphic design, marketing communications, &amp; social media management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Web content &amp; digital archive management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital content creation including, but not limited to, podcast production, video production, blogposts, essays, &amp; project summaries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Event &amp; program coordination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Community engagement &amp; outreach<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellows also make significant contributions to team efforts, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Event staffing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Program evaluation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborative problem-solving<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strategic planning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-qualifications\">Qualifications:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-required\"><em>Required<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Oral &amp; written communication<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal accountability &amp; time management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrated understanding of humanities concepts &amp; practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to work independently and as part of a team<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>High degree of internal motivation and curiosity, with ability to initiate projects and tasks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-preferred\"><em>Preferred<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WordPress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social media best practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Emma<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adobe Express<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Audacity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ability to use digital documentation equipment, including DSLR camera &amp; Zoom H6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OmekaS<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest in public humanities and\/or digital humanities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interest in C21&#8217;s 2026-27 research theme, <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/events\/slow\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Slow Action<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Preference will be given to candidates whose skills and interests are most aligned with our areas of need.
