{"id":11595,"date":"2024-08-18T20:59:35","date_gmt":"2024-08-19T01:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/?page_id=11595"},"modified":"2026-04-02T18:43:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T23:43:11","slug":"slow","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/events\/slow\/","title":{"rendered":"SLOW (2024-2027)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"aligncenter uwm-c-img--center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/359\/2024\/12\/SLOW-Logo-Black-Circle-e1733098454722.png\" alt=\"Logo for C21's SLOW programming series \" class=\"wp-image-12069\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-slow-the-pace-of-being-human\">SLOW: The pace of being human<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Slow movements\u2014across food, cities, science, scholarship and beyond \u2014 call attention to embodied processes of building and maintaining collective life that resist the fast-paced efficiency models, rapid rewards, and short attention spans that increasingly seem to dominant human responses to 21<sup>st <\/sup>century social, political, and ecological challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SLOW will develop over the next three academic years (2024-2027), manifesting in interactive discussions, lectures from internationally renowned experts, film screenings, exhibitions, community-driven experiential events, and more. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each academic year will explore distinct aspects of slowness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/events\/slow\/slow-knowing\/\">Slow Knowing (2024-2025)<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; How does the accelerated pace of machine and computing time collide with evolutionary, celestial, and deep time? How can interdisciplinary humanities research help us understand what humans are in time with and how human pace is attuned?&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/c21\/events\/slow\/slow-care\/\">Slow Care (2025-2026)<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; How can we take better care of ourselves and others? Is pacing the key to intimacy, understanding, and repair?
