Areas of Expertise
Dr. Alwan specializes in supply chain/operations management, statistical process control, and forecasting. His research includes developing model-based approaches for purposes of more effectiveÌýprocess monitoring. His paper "Time-Series Modeling for Statistical Process Control" is regarded as a seminal paper in the area of process control. Currently, his focus is on the impact of forecasting techniques on theÌýoperational management front as it pertains to inventory control and supply chainÌýcoordination. He teaches courses in business statistics, predictiveÌýanalytics, supply chain analytics,Ìýand supply chain management.
Professional Activities
Dr. Alwan has consulted and performed research for several companies on the issues of forecasting, statistical process control, and operations management. He has served on the National JMP/SAS Customer Advisory Board. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Morocco, teaching at Al Akhawayn University and conducting research of quality management initiatives in Morocco.
Dr Alwan's work has appeared in numerous journals includingÌýDecision Sciences, Journal of Business and Economic Statistics,ÌýJournal of Royal Statistical Society,ÌýIIE Transactions,ÌýProduction and Operations Management,ÌýEuropean Journal of Operational Research, International Journal of Production Research,ÌýCommunications in Statistics,Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌýQuality Engineering. HeÌýhas also authored a textbook titledÌýStatistical Process AnalysisÌýand is a co-author ofÌýThe Practice of Statistics for Business and Economics.
Dr. Alwan has also received several teaching awards, including three times receiving the Lubar College’s Business Advisory Council Award for Teaching Excellence. He is also the recipient of the Susan Szymczak Teaching and Mentoring Award.
