As part of the Business Scholars curriculum, students are required to complete a Lubar study abroad, research thesis, or research in industry project. That means you will have the opportunity to develop a project or thesis in your area of interest, which is designed to mirror graduate-level seminars in the level of research and applications. As part of the experiential learning project, students are eligible to receive a $500 scholarship award from the Lubar College of Business.

Students should choose ONE of the following options:

1. Reading & Research /Thesis

BUS ADM 599 – This option allows students to evaluate in depth an academic topic of interest with the supervision of a faculty member. The thesis should be approved by the director of the business scholars’ program. For example, an accounting student recently completed a project analyzing a component of the accounting regulation ASC 606, which addresses the inconsistencies that existed in old revenue recognition framework. Note: The thesis may double-count for the honors program.

2. Research in Industry

BUS ADM 499 – Examples for research in industry projects include working with a local industry to solve a business problem or to work with the Center for Community-Based Learning, Leadership, and Research at 51ÁÔÆæ to complete a service-learning project, typically with a non-profit company. The research project should be approved by the director of the business scholars’ program. For example, an accounting student recently completed a project evaluating ‘Accounting for Accountability Under Section 10b-5 of the Securities Exchange Act’. Note: This research project may double-count for the honors program.

3. Study Abroad: Business Topics

BUS ADM 498 – Among the programs offered at the Lubar School of Business, there are study abroad options to Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
