    The New Music Ensemble (NME) will perform contemporary music ranging from avant-garde, world premieres, and student compositions. The NME is excited to perform this concert full of experimental and challenging music.

  • Jean Carlo Ureña Gonzalez – Percussion Guest Artist

    Jean Carlo is a versatile performer, composer and educator that connects western and nonwestern tradition into concert settings. He has performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Santo Domingo, Jackson Symphony, Toledo Symphony and Adrian Symphony. He has performed on multiple occasions in New Music Detroit’s, Strange Beautiful Music (SBM) annual concert series. He is the founder and co-director of the first Dominican percussion ensemble that combines western and Caribbean musical traditions, ATEZA’O. Ureña González, joins the faculty of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music as a Assistant Professor of Percussion in the Fall of 2023.

    ±á±ð²¹°ù³Ù±ô²¹²Ô»åÌý²Ñ²¹°ù¾±³¾²ú²¹ was established in 2016 by acclaimed marimba soloist Matthew Coley and has done more than 140 concerts since its inception. The group seeks to give a platform to the music of American composers in its programming and continues to expand its repertoire with works from composers worldwide. 

  • 51ÁÔÆæ Steel PANthers Steel Band & Community World Music Ensemble

    This exciting night of music will feature music from Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago performed by 51ÁÔÆæ students and Milwaukee community members. The 51ÁÔÆæ Steel PANthers Steel Band and the Community World Music Ensemble will join forces on a program highlighting traditional and arranged music played on Guatemalan marimba doble and Trinidadian steel pans.

  • Life. Art. Education. Honoring the Legacy of Allison B. Cooke

    For twelve consecutive summers, while teaching at UW-Milwaukee, Allison B. Cooke served as Director and Professor for the Study Abroad program at the Santa Reparata International School of Art (SRISA) in Florence, Italy. There she inspired countless students through on-location drawing and painting classes across the stunning city and developed an intensive four-week summer course in Renaissance painting techniques.

    The Fisher/Lau Project (percussion duo of Dr. Abby Fisher and Dr. Matthew Lau) cultivates an international presence through engagements such as the Transplanted Roots Percussion Research Symposium (Brisbane, Australia), Percussive Arts Society International Convention (Indianapolis, USA), and Ensemble Mise-En Curator Series (Brooklyn, USA). F/L Project promotes the contemporary and avant garde aesthetic with clarity and approachability at concerts, engagement at masterclasses, and through their interactive social media presence. With repertoire extending from European master Philippe Manoury to esteemed compositional voices of today including Alex Temple and Jordan Munson, F/L Project works to perform music from a diverse range of composers.
