Drawn from the evocative paintings of Edward Hopper\, Later the Same Evening transforms still images into intimate\, overlapping human stories set in mid-century New York. Composed by John Musto with a libretto by Mark Campbell\, this American chamber opera has earned national and international recognition for its cinematic structure\, lyrical score\, and deeply human storytelling. \nSince its premiere at the University of Maryland’s Opera Studio\, Later the Same Evening has been produced by leading institutions including Wolf Trap Opera\, Glimmerglass Opera\, Pittsburgh Opera\, Curtis Institute of Music\, Manhattan School of Music\, and Juilliard School\, among others. Its continued presence on major stages speaks to its unique ability to bridge visual art\, music\, and drama in a way that feels both timeless and immediate. \nWe are especially proud to welcome director Doug Clemons\, a dynamic force in the Milwaukee arts scene. Known for his work as both a director and actor across companies such as Florentine Opera\, Skylight Music Theatre and Milwaukee Opera Theatre\, Doug brings a wealth of experience\, nuance\, and theatrical insight to this production. His ability to draw out layered\, truthful performances makes him an ideal collaborator for a work built on subtle connections and emotional depth. \nLater the Same Evening invites audiences into a world where stories unfold side by side\, revealing how even the smallest moments can resonate far beyond a single night. \nMusic by John MustoLibretto by Mark CampbellUsed by arrangement with Songs of Peer\, Ltd. \nDirector: Doug ClemonsMusic Director: Joe Hauer Producer: Aaron Agulay \n\n\nIn-person Tickets\n\n\n\n\nGeneral\n$17\n\n\nSeniors 65+\, *51 Faculty\, Staff & Alumni\n$14\n\n\nYouth 17 and Under\n$12\n\n\n*51 Student\n$9\n\n\n*PSOA Student (events ONLY in your department)\n$6\n\n\n*If you have a 51 email account\, please log in when visiting the Box Office page in order to display all 51 affiliated ticket pricing.\n\n\nLivestream Tickets\n\n\n\n\nLivestream\n$12\n\n\n–\n–\n\n\n–\n–\n\n\n–\n–\n\n\n–\n–\n\n\nLivestream URLs are sent from psoatix@uwm.edu to the purchasing e-mail two hours prior to event start time.\n\n\n\n\n\nPurchase In-Person Tickets \nPurchase Livestream Tickets \nView Program (PDF) URL:/arts/event/spring-opera/ LOCATION:Music Building\, Recital Hall\, 2400 E. 51.\, Milwaukee\, WI\, 53211 CATEGORIES:Arts and Culture,Feature,Music,Performances,Public,Students,51 Campus Events ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/webp:/arts/wp-content/uploads/sites/637/2024/06/Later-the-Same-Evening_CAL.webp X-TRIBE-STATUS: GEO:43.0762821;-87.8798006 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Music Building Recital Hall 2400 E. 51.
