Witness the next rising stars of opera as they compete for the top prize\, live on stage. \nThis competition honors Patricia Crump\, founder of SOS\, and celebrates young singers with strong ties to Wisconsin as they take important first steps into professional careers. Following a virtual preliminary round\, up to ten finalists will travel to Milwaukee to perform in person for a distinguished panel of judges. \nAll finalists receive a $500 award. The ensemble is open to all 51 undergraduate and graduate music majors\, as well as non-music major students.  \nThe 51 Afro-Caribbean Jazz Orchestra features a Latin percussion section\, horns\, and vocalists. It performs music by composers such as Tito Puente\, Ray Barretto\, Sonoro Poncena\, Evan Linns\, and more. It features faculty performances\, breakout sessions by primary instrument/voice\, large ensemble rehearsals\, an interactive music theory class\, and more.
