DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeTuesday\, April 21\, 2026 (7–9 p.m.) \n\n\n\n\n\nLocation51ÁÔÆæ Union Cinema \n\n\n\n\n\nPeggy Ahwesh’s wildly heterogeneous body of work—across moving image formats (from Pixelvision to machinima to super-8 and everywhere between)\, in installation and as object and through the ephemeral—engages with the political\, the social\, genre and identity in fascinatingly idiosyncratic\, oneiric\, visceral and rigorous ways. \n\n\n\nExperimental Tuesdays is a free public series featuring celebrated work of contemporary and historical artist-made film and video. This weekly series presents films and artists that explore the creative and critical potential of moving images. It also amplifies marginalized voices by hosting artists that represent diverse populations\, such as LGBT\, Native American\, Black and Latinx artists. Hosted by the Department of Film\, Video\, Animation & New Genres\, and presented in partnership with 51ÁÔÆæ’s Union Cinema\, this series is a bedrock of the Milwaukee arts landscape. Recent screenings include Silvia das Fadas\, Courtney Stephens\, Simon Liu\, Helena Wittman\, Jessica Bardsley\, Suneil Sanzgiri\, Mary Helena Clark\, Angelo Madsen Minax\, and Rhayne Vermette to name a few.

Through practical tips and real-world insight\, students will explore animation workflows\, professional expectations\, and strategies for navigating freelance and studio environments. The session also centers on finding and refining your artistic voice—balancing personal expression with industry demands—while offering guidance on portfolios\, networking\, and post-graduation next steps for launching a career in animation. \nRodney Lambright II is an artist and creative. He specializes in conceiving a diverse range of work that centers story through illustration\, animation\, design\, and directing. His experience in the design and animation industry has led him to work with a range of clients\, from Airbnb\, Apple\, Google\, and PBS\, to name a few. \nRodney’s artistic style has been influenced by the likes of Christopher Nolan\, Satoshi Kon\, and Sampha. His works explore themes of Afro-futurism\, and the psychologically mystical aspects of the human experience. He flocks to opportunities that allow his art to connect people to big ideas\, while also investigating the balance between innovation and sustainability. He is currently a Senior Designer at BUCK Design \nSpecial Features is an art and film focused professional development workshop series curated by the Film\, Video\, Animation & New Genres department at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. \n \n \n\nTickets are not required for this FREE event.

This event is a special addition to the university-wide UW-Milwaukee commencement ceremony. \n\nRSVP \nProgram (PDF) \nLivestream\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nExpand All \nWhat is Convocation and how is it different than Commencement?\n\n\nThis special ceremony is an opportunity for Faculty & Staff in the Peck School of the Arts to recognize students who are graduating with bachelor and master’s degrees. The event was established in response to student requests and precedes the large 51ÁÔÆæ Commencement. We encourage you to attend both ceremonies. \nThe convocation ceremony begins with a procession of graduating students into the Bader Concert Hall. Students are seated on stage with the Dean and Department Chairs. There will be an address with opening remarks and all graduates being recognized. Students will be called up by department\, with each department introduced by a selection of work representing their discipline. When your department is standing\, you will be called by name to walk across the stage and receive your stole (a piece of academic regalia\, much like a long scarf\, that you can wear with your cap and gown to the campus-wide Commencement ceremony). After the closing remarks and recessional\, everyone crosses the lobby to Zelazo 280 for a dessert reception. \n\n\nIs the event in-person or virtual?\n\n\nPSOA Convocation is an in-person event\, which will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. \n\n\nWho should participate?\n\n\nAll Peck School of the Arts students who have graduated or will be graduating by any of the dates listed above along with friends and family of graduating students are welcome to attend. \n\n\nDoes it cost anything?\n\n\nThe event is free. Tickets are not required\, but we do appreciate that you RSVP so we can best plan for your enjoyment. \n\n\nCan I invite my family and friends?\n\n\nDefinitely! You will receive an email invitation to the Peck School of the Arts Graduation Convocation in early April. This camp\, with optional overnight accommodations\, includes hands-on workshops and sessions led by practicing artists and professors\, so participants gain knowledge from experienced professionals. \nFilm Summer Camp | June 22–26\n\n\nHousing & Accommodations\nComing from out of town or want to enrich your UW-Milwaukee experience? Overnight accommodations with evening activities are available by registering for the overnight program. On-campus housing includes a shared double bedroom\, bathroom and kitchen as part of a four-bedroom suite.
