DESCRIPTION:Date & TimeWednesday\, May 6\, 2026 (7:30–9 p.m.) \n\n\n\n\n\nLocationVirtual \n\n\n\n\n\nMFA Candidates Corrigan Eckert & Jack Lehtinen explore philosophical questions facing the human race and their connection to the world around them. Eckert is an emerging environmental artist who studies the impacts of place-based artworks on community engagement and land stewardship. Lehtinen’s artistic practice critiques AI technologies by contrasting automatic machine-made processes with tactile\, hands-on practices like print and papermaking. \n\n\n\nEckert uses drawing\, paper arts\, painting\, and various printmaking processes\, to create dynamic art pieces that discuss issues facing the land\, humans\, and the greater than human beings that depend on it. \n\n\n\nLehtinen explores how AI is known to distort the human hand\, literally in image generation\, and metaphorically when considering what the human hand represents – a symbol of labor\, creation\, and agency that is being severed from its original value. \n\n\n\nThroughout the fall and spring semesters\, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional\, hybrid and emergent disciplines. This event is a special addition to the university-wide UW-Milwaukee commencement ceremony. \n\nRSVP \nProgram (PDF) \nLivestream\n\nFrequently Asked Questions\nExpand All \nWhat is Convocation and how is it different than Commencement?\n\n\nThis special ceremony is an opportunity for Faculty & Staff in the Peck School of the Arts to recognize students who are graduating with bachelor and master’s degrees. The event was established in response to student requests and precedes the large 51ÁÔÆæ Commencement. We encourage you to attend both ceremonies. \nThe convocation ceremony begins with a procession of graduating students into the Bader Concert Hall. Students are seated on stage with the Dean and Department Chairs. There will be an address with opening remarks and all graduates being recognized. Students will be called up by department\, with each department introduced by a selection of work representing their discipline. When your department is standing\, you will be called by name to walk across the stage and receive your stole (a piece of academic regalia\, much like a long scarf\, that you can wear with your cap and gown to the campus-wide Commencement ceremony). After the closing remarks and recessional\, everyone crosses the lobby to Zelazo 280 for a dessert reception. \n\n\nIs the event in-person or virtual?\n\n\nPSOA Convocation is an in-person event\, which will also be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. \n\n\nWho should participate?\n\n\nAll Peck School of the Arts students who have graduated or will be graduating by any of the dates listed above along with friends and family of graduating students are welcome to attend. \n\n\nDoes it cost anything?\n\n\nThe event is free. Tickets are not required\, but we do appreciate that you RSVP so we can best plan for your enjoyment. \n\n\nCan I invite my family and friends?\n\n\nDefinitely! You will receive an email invitation to the Peck School of the Arts Graduation Convocation in early April. Feel free to pass it along to friends to attend in-person or online. \n\n\nHow many guests may I bring?\n\n\nYou may bring as many guests as you like. Please RSVP with the total number of in-person attendees so we can plan accordingly. \n\n\nWhat should I wear?\n\n\nThere is no dress code for this event. You are welcome to wear your cap and gown but most students simply wear business attire.
