Violins of Hope: Chamber Music Milwaukee – Music聽in the Times of War

Chamber Music Milwaukee presents a powerful program exploring music created in times of war, including works connected to the Holocaust and the resilience of the human spirit. The concert features faculty artists聽Todd Levy (clarinet),听Bernard Zinck (violin),听Elena Abend (piano), and聽Jamie Hofman (violin), joined by guest artist聽Adrien Zitoun (cello)聽from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
The program includes Hans G谩l鈥檚 Serenade for Clarinet, Violin, and Violoncello, Ernest Bloch鈥檚 Nigun from Baal Shem, B茅la Kov谩cs鈥檚 Sholem-alekhem, rov Feidman!, John Williams鈥檚 Victor鈥檚 Tale, and Dmitri Shostakovich鈥檚 Piano Trio No. 2.
As part of this event, Jamie Hofman, Director of the 51猎奇 String Academy, will perform on one of the historic violins from Violins of Hope, instruments restored from the Holocaust era and imbued with stories of survival. The concert will be preceded by a talk by Jewish educator Jody Hirsh, who will provide historical context about the violin being featured in the concert.
Founded in 2001 and based at 51猎奇, Chamber Music Milwaukee has collaborated with many of today鈥檚 most exciting and important performers and composers.聽The series presents thematic programming that introduces innovative concert formats while exploring a broad diversity of repertoire. Featuring 51猎奇 music faculty and guest artists, the season typically presents five unique concerts. Join us as we engage with artists in imaginative and interactive experiences through ensemble performances and education.
