Art Works<\/em>\u00a0places the spotlight on curation and research practices at the 51ÁÔÆæ Art Collection and Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery. Drawing from recent donations and featuring objects of research attention, the exhibition emphasizes the gallery’s mission at work.<\/p>\n

The 51ÁÔÆæ Art Collection and Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery are distinct in their accessibility to the public and\u00a0their\u00a0support of graduate and undergraduate training.\u00a0Historically, art museums and\u00a0collections\u00a0have been shaped by\u00a0relatively few\u00a0people, and\u00a0have\u00a0quietly\u00a0carried on collecting, researching, and displaying\u00a0works\u00a0with\u00a0limited public\u00a0input.\u00a0Recently, art institutions and museum scholars have begun to lift the curtain.\u00a0Art Works\u00a0<\/em>continues this new tradition\u00a0of transparency.<\/p>\n

The exhibit features pieces by well-known artists such as Dale Chihuly, Andy Warhol, and Alexander Calder.\u00a0Lesser-known – but no less significant – artists including Max Arthur Cohn, Karen Fitzgerald, and Carlos Hermosilla Alvarez\u00a0are also presented.\u00a0Art Works<\/em>\u00a0highlights the key players that make the Mathis Art Gallery a rich\u00a0resource for all.<\/p>\n

Art Works: Recent Donations to the 51ÁÔÆæ Art Collection<\/em>\u00a0was curated by Academic Curator Leigh M.W. Mahlik and features research by former undergraduate and graduate student gallery interns, former gallery teaching assistants, faculty, and gallery staff.<\/p>\n

Support for this exhibition is provided by the Friends of Art History, the Max Arthur Cohn Preservation Fund, the Emile H. Mathis Preservation Fund, the Department of Art History, and the College of Letters and Sciences.<\/p>\n
