{"id":7438,"date":"2025-09-26T09:29:35","date_gmt":"2025-09-26T14:29:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/webid2-test-lsweb\/?page_id=7438"},"modified":"2025-10-02T11:28:26","modified_gmt":"2025-10-02T16:28:26","slug":"honors","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/arthistory\/students\/undergraduate\/honors\/","title":{"rendered":"Honors"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-honors-in-the-major\">Honors in the Major<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Art history majors who meet the following criteria are awarded honors in the major:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>3.00 cumulative GPA in all 51ÁÔÆæ graded credits;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3.50 GPA in all credits that count toward the major;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3.50 GPA in all advanced credits that count toward the major;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ARTHIST 501 with grade of A- or better;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>One of the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>6 credits of an art historical language, 200 level or above, with grades of B or better (language must be approved by a relevant faculty member);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Passing grade in the Art History Department\u2019s translation exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-honors-college\">Honors College<\/h2>\n\n\n<p>Students invited to join the 51ÁÔÆæ Honors College have exclusive access to Honors classes and upon completion of the Honors requirements can graduate with Honors distinctions. Honors courses are typically smaller than average and taught in a seminar style. Freshmen are invited to join based on their admissions application materials demonstrating high achievement in high school. Current students and transfer students can contact the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/honors\/admission\/\">Honors College<\/a>\u00a0to inquire about eligibility to apply.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-dean-s-honor-list\">Dean&#8217;s Honor List<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Students with a major in the College of Letters &amp; Science majors who earn a GPA of 3.750 or above in any semester where 12 or more graded credits are earned will be placed on the Dean\u2019s Honors List for that semester.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-phi-beta-kappa\">Phi Beta Kappa<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\"><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/phi-beta-kappa\/\">Phi Beta Kappa<\/a> is the nation\u2019s oldest honor society. Membership is by invitation only. Just ten percent of U.S. universities have Phi Beta Kappa chapters, and within the UW System, only Milwaukee and Madison have chapters. <\/p>\r\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Membership criteria include the completion of a broad range of liberal arts coursework spanning the arts, sciences, humanities, social sciences, and languages; and academic achievement with a minimum GPA in these classes of 3.850 for juniors or 3.750 for seniors.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-phi-kappa-phi\">Phi Kappa Phi<\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"is-style-default\">Phi Kappa Phi is also recognized as one of the nation\u2019s premier academic honor societies. Membership is by invitation only and is based on class rank \u2014 top 7.5% for juniors or top 10% for seniors.
