{"id":189,"date":"2024-09-18T11:00:07","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T16:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/ai\/?page_id=189"},"modified":"2025-05-15T14:10:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T19:10:11","slug":"services","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/ai\/services\/","title":{"rendered":"Services"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p>The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Taskforce will recommend a pilot set of tools that will be made available to campus.\u202fData security \u2013 and the types of data involved \u2013 are a key driver for the appropriate tools.\u202fIn some cases, the LLM will integrate data from queries into the model.\u202fThis might be acceptable for publicly available data, but for much of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s data, the underlying data shouldn\u2019t be used to train models.\u202fThe appropriate tools for various uses depend on the data security level including:\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Low Risk<\/strong> \u2013 data that is publicly available, such as information found out the 51ÁÔÆæ website, is low risk data. These data can form the basis for AI chatbots that students, prospective students and the campus community can use to access large amounts of data that make up the thousands of webpages that are part of the 51ÁÔÆæ domain.\u202fThere is low risk in exposing this data to LLMs \u2013 in fact, they may have already used this data in developing their models.\u202f\u202f\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Moderate Risk<\/strong> \u2013 51ÁÔÆæ has important confidential or proprietary data such as unpublished work and data that could form the basis of patent applications. These data typically shouldn\u2019t be exposed to free tools and instead should used tools offering \u201centerprise-level\u201d security.\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>High Risk <\/strong>\u2013 including information that 51ÁÔÆæ is obligated to protect including FERPA (the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, which governs access to educational information) and HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which governs privacy of patient data). 51ÁÔÆæ has a statutory obligation to protect these data, and it should only be exposed to tools offering an appropriate level of projection as certified by the vendor.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>AI tools from various vendors are evolving quickly, and the AI Taskforce is working to identify which tools it can offer and support to which users \u2013 balancing availability and the cost of service with the impact to our mission.\u202fBuilding on models from other institutions, the proposed campus offerings will include three service tiers:\u202f\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><em>Equitable<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 basic tools made broadly available for 51ÁÔÆæ users with basic service. These tools will probably be part of the Teams\/Windows license offerings for any user with 51ÁÔÆæ credentials.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Targeted<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 expanded tools\/services deployed for targeted applications including business operations.\u202f\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><em>Special<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 customized services and tools for research and other applications; these tools might be supported through grants or offered on a limited basis using campus or department funds.\u202f&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col uwm-l-col--4 uwm-l-offset--1\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1287,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":12,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[]},"class_list":["post-189","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
