It is intended to highlight the opportunities and resources available to students, while also fostering a sense of belonging within the academic community. This message helps to set the stage for continued, positive interactions between faculty and students.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp; welcome message for students should be encouraging, informative, and inclusive. Several tips along with examples are provided to help aid in the writing of a welcome message.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-personalize-the-message\"><strong>Personalize the Message<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Introduce yourself as the instructor or a representative of the institution.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mention specific aspects of the course or program that you are excited about.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acknowledge the unique backgrounds and experiences of the incoming students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-highlight-key-information\"><strong>Highlight Key Information<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Outline key dates, deadlines, and expectations for the semester.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mention opportunities for academic support, such as tutoring or writing centers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide contact information for yourself and other relevant support staff.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-foster-a-sense-of-community\"><strong>Foster a Sense of Community<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Emphasize that the institution is a supportive and inclusive environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Encourage students to connect with each other and build relationships with faculty and staff.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highlight the diversity of the student body and the value of different perspectives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Express confidence in the students&#8217; ability to succeed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-offer-encouragement-and-inspiration\"><strong>Offer Encouragement and Inspiration<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Share a positive and optimistic outlook for the upcoming academic year.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Let them know that you are there to support them throughout their learning journey.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-example-message\">Example Message<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-p-card--white uwm-u-mb-40\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><div class=\"uwm-p-card--content\">\n<p>Welcome, [Student Name]! <br>It&#8217;s a pleasure to have you join us for [Course Name\/Program Name]. If instructors import an announcement from another Canvas course, new announcement notifications will not be sent to course users.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notifications are not sent for announcements created before the course has been published.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student app users cannot view announcements on the homepage. However, they can view announcements in the course&#8217;s Announcements&nbsp;Navigation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-record-a-video-welcome-message-in-canvas-announcements\"><strong>Record a Video Welcome Message in Canvas Announcements<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Using a video for a welcome message is beneficial because it fosters a stronger connection between the instructor and students, enhances social presence, and can improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
