Frequently Asked Questions About the 51ÁÔÆæ University Center

Will more bachelor’s degree programs be added in the future?

Yes. We plan to add programs each of our first few years of operation, until we offer a variety of popular programs.

Which University Center bachelor’s degree is the right fit for me?

The Social Work BSW is designed for students with an AAS in Human Services or Substance Use Disorder Counseling. The Information Science & Technology BS is open to students with any associate degree.

I have an associate degree from a technical college but there’s a different bachelor’s degree program at 51ÁÔÆæ that I’m interested in.

51ÁÔÆæ has transfer agreements with many technical colleges. If you graduated from one of the five following technical colleges, you’re guaranteed admission at 51ÁÔÆæ and can transfer at least 60 credits toward any of 51ÁÔÆæ’s bachelor’s degree programs:

  • Gateway Technical College
  • Milwaukee Area Technical College
  • Moraine Park Technical College
  • Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
  • Waukesha County Technical College
  • Fox Valley Technical College

If you graduated from another technical college, connect with a 51ÁÔÆæ admissions advisor to find out what credits will transfer and the best pathway to graduation for you.

The most popular bachelor’s degree programs for transfer students are:

  • Psychology (BA)
  • General Business (BBA)
  • Biomedical Sciences (BS)
  • Marketing (BBA)
  • Nursing (BS)
Where will the University Center classes be held?

Courses will be offered in a mix of online and in-person formats, based on student needs and demand. If courses are in-person, they will be held at the technical college campus.

What are the University Center’s eligibility requirements?

Students who have graduated or are graduating with an associate degree from any of our technical college partners may enroll at the 51ÁÔÆæ University Center.

Are University Center students official 51ÁÔÆæ students?

Yes! University Center students are considered degree-seeking 51ÁÔÆæ students.

Do University Center students pay 51ÁÔÆæ tuition?

Yes. Check out uwm.edu/cost-aid for current undergraduate tuition rates.

How do I apply?

Start by completing the 51ÁÔÆæ University Center Intent Form. You will also need to apply to 51ÁÔÆæ. An admissions advisor can help you determine the easiest way to do that.

Once I am a 51ÁÔÆæ student, what if I want to take a class from WCTC in the same semester as some 51ÁÔÆæ classes?

Work in advance with your 51ÁÔÆæ academic advisor. 51ÁÔÆæ degree-seeking students need permission from their dean’s office to “concurrently enroll.” You’d be degree-seeking from 51ÁÔÆæ and would have to apply as a special student at your technical college. See details on , including fees/tuition considerations.

In addition, if you are taking fewer than 12 credits from 51ÁÔÆæ, you may need to use this Financial Aid Consortium Agreement Form to maximize your aid eligibility. Before completing, we recommend consulting with an advisor at the 51ÁÔÆæ Student Financial Service Center (SFSC) to ensure this is a necessary step. If needed, provide the first page to the financial aid office at your technical college and the second page to your 51ÁÔÆæ academic advisor. Once they are both completed, return the form to the SFSC.

On the other hand, degree-seeking students enrolled in technical college who wish to take 51ÁÔÆæ classes through the University Center or otherwise, will need to work with their advisor and the Financial Aid Office at their technical college.

How will 51ÁÔÆæ students, instructors or staff spending time at the WCTC campus receive alerts about weather closures and other emergencies at either of the two WCTC campuses?

As a 51ÁÔÆæ University Center at WCTC student, how do I get an ID card in order to access WCTC services?

WCTC ID cards are available from the IT services desk inside of the library in the B-Building at the WCTC Pewaukee (main) campus. (Though WCTC students can get ID cards at the WCTC-Waukesha location, 51ÁÔÆæ-affiliated faculty or students will not be able to do so. Further, anyone picking up a card will have to do so themselves, and have their photo taken at pickup. WCTC students may pre-load a picture to their portal and an instructor can pick up their card, but 51ÁÔÆæ employees/students are not able to do this).

Students who graduated/left WCTC and are only taking 51ÁÔÆæ classes will not be able to use their old WCTC card, they will need to get a new WCTC card for 51ÁÔÆæ students. (Students who are simultaneously in a given semester taking both 51ÁÔÆæ and WCTC classes are eligible for a standard WCTC ID card).

I have a disability. How do I request accommodation services for my University Center courses?

If you are a current or new University Center student and have a documented disability, you may apply for academic accommodations with the 51ÁÔÆæ Accessibility Resource Center (ARC). It is important to mention in the application and in your meeting with the ARC Access Specialist that you are attending 51ÁÔÆæ at WCTC.
